365 Book Launch / The Hospital Club
Just over 5 years ago I started an art project; although I didn’t realise at the time it was going to be a project. It was a really tough time in my life and I began doing a painting every single day. Some days it was really hard - it was the last thing I wanted to do. But I knew it was crucial to keep disciplined and focussed. I knew that it would help give me something to hang on to and hopefully move me out of a dark place. I painted on cardboard and wood - bits of things I found walking home from work. My partner Polly kindly allowed me to bring them home and slowly fill up the spare room. From March 2011, I began titling each painting a news headline from the day; so the work had a digital foot print. Last year with the help of some dear friends, I self-published all of the paintings in a book called 365: Every Day Counts. 500 books (a sort of time capsule) - each cover and spine individually painted and signed, making each one a unique piece of art.
On Thursday 24th March from 6pm, I’m launching the books at the Hospital Club in Covent Garden. The launch includes a panel discussion (involving psyhchiatrists, art therapists, artists - some truly amazing people) who will contemplate creativity and the mind. I don't think we talk openly about this enough. The event is free but you must click the link to register for a ticket. I hope you can join me.
